C'est en 1991 que fusèrent les premières notes d'ALEA JACTA EST. Deux années plus tard, le groupe faisait ses premières armes sur scène. En 1995, il entreprend l'enregistrement de son premier album, qui recevra un excellent accueil, tant du public que des média.
"1er AJE" fut ainsi le support pour entamer le marathon des cafés-concerts, bars et autres scènes.
Fort d'un nouveau bassiste et quelques 300 représentations plus tard, un nouveau séjour au Studio Do Note donne naissance au tout nouvel opus des nantais, il s'intitule "Couleurs et Fièvre".
Très vite, les premières "advances tapes" qui ont circulé ont été accueillies avec un réel enthousiasme, leur permettant de trouver rapidement une distribution.
Avec ses compositions soudées, ancrées dans les racines et sans concessions, "Couleurs et Fièvre" est probablement l'album de la maturité pour ALEA JACTA EST. Ils nous balancent un opus gonflé à bloc de Rock pêchu et nerveux aux racines bluesy et groovy surmonté d'un chant hargneux et poétique à la fois.
Si leur musique est très ouverte et d'inspiration fort éclectique, une seule donnée reste fixe, le chant en français (mis à part un titre en breton). Il serait en effet dommage, à l'écoute de cet album, de ne pas savourer la qualité de la langue véhiculée par Mash.

ALEA JACTA EST (Latin for "the dice is cast") burst out their first notes in 1991. Two years later, the band, hailing from Nantes, made their live début. In 1995, they set about recording their eponymous first album which was greeted with much appraisal from both the audiences and the media.
This first effort became the medium through which the musicians could build on a marathon tour of pubs, clubs and other miscellaneous venues.
Strenghtened by a new bass-player and a little 300 gigs later, a new sojournv in the Do Note studio gave birth to their brand new opus, called "Couleurs et Fièvre" (Colours and Fever). The first advanced demos which passed round quickly aroused enthusiasm, allowing the band to secure distribution of their album at a moment's notice.
With their compositions well knit together and firmly anchored in their musical roots without making unnecessary concessions, "Couleurs et Fièvre" sounds as ALEA JACTA EST at the height of their powers. They fling us over a powerful piece of work, full of nervous rock on top form with bluesy and groovy influences rounded off with fierce yet poetical vocals.
Even if their music is open-minded and eclectical of inspiration, as a matter of fact, the singing still insists on remaining French, aside from a track sung in Gaelic. It would be a great pity not to savour Mash's sharpness of language when enjoying this masterful album.
